The book is arranged by class and includes the various paint schemes and remanufacturing until retirement or merger with BNSF. The first page of each class includes a header with locomotive specifications, including manufacturer, type of engine, horsepower, cylinders, pistons, number owned, years built and number series.
The photos, almost all of which are in color, usually show the view from both the engineer and the fireman’s side, the nose and rear, and the roof line. The narrative provides detailed information about each class of engine. Illustrated throughout with color photos and schematic diagrams.
