The bulk of the German Wehrmacht’s vehicle fleet during World War II consisted of 3-ton trucks. One of the most numerous of these was the G917T model, produced at Ford’s German factories in Cologne since 1939. This truck was equipped with a V8 engine and had rear-wheel drive only.
G917T trucks were used by all German branches of the military until the end of the war – in Polish and French campaigns, on the Soviet-German front, in North Africa, and in Italy. A total of approximately 25,000 G917T trucks were produced in German factories between 1939 and 1941. A mounting platform allowed a 2 cm anti-aircraft gun to be mounted on the loading area, allowing the truck to be used for troop air cover.
